The purpose of a Lions Club, is to provide services to the
local community. The York New Salem Lions Club clearly fulfills this purpose as they serve in all directions in and around
the area of York New Salem.
To familiarize you with Lionism,
here is a brief summary of what our organization is all about.
Lions International was founded in Chicago, Illinois by Melvin Jones on June 17, 1917. Since
that time, this program has grown to over 1,800,000 members. The present Lions Club International headquarters is located
in Oakbrook, Illinois. A Lions Club is not a fraternal, political or religiously affiliated. Members of Lions consist of many
races and creeds, and include people of all ages within a local area who share common community interests. The common denominator
is that they believe in service to mankind and enjoy the opportunity to fellowship with others.
The York New Salem Lions Club was chartered May 6, 1977
with 25 members. This nucleus group remains and seeks constantly to expand its membership to include others who are willing
to serve others through the many projects they are involved in each year. Where there is a need in the community, York New
Salem Lions Club is available to help and we welcome and seek avenues of service to others. Just to give you an idea of how
the York New Salem Lions serve the community. The next page is a synopsis of some of the major endeavors we focus
on each year.
